其中even if an ice-free corridor did exist, it would have lacked the resources needed for human colonization應該是一個假設語氣條件句
even if an ice-free corridor did exist，did應該是用來強調，所以後面接原型動詞。
->even if an ice-free corridor existed, it would have lacked the resources needed for human colonization
即使ice-free corridor過去真的存在，還是缺少the resources needed for human colonization
even if an ice-free corridor existed(事實上沒有)，(與過去事實相反)條件句even if應該是要用過去完成式，但這邊卻是過去簡單式
it would have lacked the resources needed for human colonization
would have lacked -> would have + past participle 應該是結果句是(與過去事實相反)的用法
結果句應該要用現在簡單式(與現在事實相符)，或者是過去簡單式(與過去事實相符)才對。
就好像例句:If I had studied harder, I would have passed the test last week.
如果我有認真念書，那麼我就會通過上禮拜的考試(與過去事實相反) -> 沒有認真念書，也沒有通過考試
