第五段的倒數第二句:
Thus, fantasy or fiction (of which drama is one form) permits people to objectify their anxieties and fears, confront them, and fulfill their hopes in fiction if not fact.
這邊的if not fact是要表達甚麼?
接著在第六段的中間部分有一句:
For example, one sign of this condition is the appearance of the comic vision, since comedy requires sufficient detachment to view some deviations from social norms as ridiculous rather than as serious threats to the welfare of the entire group.
我自己對於這句的理解是:
這個例子是對前面: One necessary condition seems to be a somewhat detached view of human problems.
-> detached view of human problems 的說明
detached view of human problems -> the comic vision
人為的問題的分離的觀點 -> 漫畫的眼光
因為要以分離的觀點去看待人為問題，所以有了漫畫式的眼光的出現(for example)
comic vision的出現是因為喜劇作品(comedy)需要足夠的超然，公正無私，以一種滑稽可笑的角度去看待某些社會規範的偏差而不是以一種對於整個團體的社會福利的嚴重的威脅去看待
我覺得這句可能是要表達: 比如說搶劫(強盜)是一個嚴重社會問題，但是搶劫(強盜)在喜劇作品中不會以一個嚴肅的角度演出，會加上很多搞笑橋段讓觀眾覺得很好笑(to view some deviations from social norms as ridiculous rather than as serious threats to the welfare of the entire group)
